Welcome to The Homeschool Squad

When my oldest child was around 3 to 4 years old, it was time to choose a school for Primary One. As I prayed for guidance in making the right choice for her, my heart began to lean toward homeschooling. Initially, I thought we would try it for just a year or so. Fast forward 10 years—four more children later—and here we are, still happily homeschooling our squad!

Over the years, especially during the lockdown, many friends have asked about the materials we use in our homeschool and the books we read. I was once one of those moms searching for direction, and in many ways, I still am—always learning and discovering new resources. These conversations about homeschooling and literature sparked a desire in me to create a space where I can share the resources and stories that have enriched our journey.

My hope is to support and inspire homeschooling families as they embark on their own paths and to connect with fellow book lovers who share a passion for great stories and meaningful learning.

Alongside our monthly book selections, which I share on the book club blog, I also want to spotlight each member of our squad and their personal reading picks. Here, you’ll get a glimpse into their unique perspectives as they share their independent reviews—a children’s book review from children to children.

Some of the books they choose for independent reading come from receiving a book as a gift, researching the author, and then wanting to read more from the same writer. Other times, their choices are inspired by a friend’s recommendation, a sequel to a book we’ve read aloud, or simply picking up something from our bookshelf that catches their interest. Their selections vary, but one thing remains the same—they’re sharing their favorites, the ones they enjoyed but not as much, and offering honest thoughts on what they’re reading.

It’s a fun way to see what resonates with each child after finishing a book, and a great way for kids to discover new reads through the eyes of fellow young readers!
